Hecker recants ‘Wii is shit’ rant
p2pnet.net news:- Nintendo’s Wii “is a piece of shit!” much like two GameCubes stuck together with duct tape, said Spore developer Chris Hecker, recently.
Widely quoted by everyone and his brother, he was speaking – ranting? – at the Game Developers Conference in a talk he’d called Fear of a Wii Planet.
Not only but also, the Wii isn’t powerful enough to provide the next-gen experience he’s been waiting, said Hecker.
And not content with that, he went on to hit out at Zelda creator Eiji Aonuma who’d been quoted as saying, “I don’t feel that games can necessarily be considered art.”
“Hecker ended his spirited rant with two demands for Nintendo,” says IGN.com: “First, recognize and push games as serious art. And two, ‘make a console that doesn’t suck ass’.”
In the cold, hard light of second thoughts, however, he pulled back. Right back.
“I was trying to be thought provoking and entertaining and fun, and a lot of the stuff went too far over the top on the entertaining and fun side, so that it was no longer thought provoking, just inflammatory,” GameSpot has him saying, going on, “I hurt a bunch of people I care about. And so, I want to apologize now.”
“I do not think that the Wii is a piece of s***,” he said, and, “applauded Nintendo for its innovation regarding the Wii’s unique controller, its user interface, and the system’s affordable price. He also commended Nintendo for its passion at making great games.”

Sounds like someone has been seriously persuaded.
Or threatened.
Or silenced.

His first thoughts sounded true, the seconded on sounds like his paymasters talking.
The Wii is Shit it fact, the Wii can not do HDTV but the PS2 can. That says a lot in fact. The Wii CPU is standing joke in the business, Nintendo has history of not listing to software developers, in fact just has PS3 lot talking to me about issues with update to library and asking for my views, that never happens with collages who do Wii software. Says it all really.

This sounds like someone who’s expecting a free Wii in the mail soon…

Why does HD matter so much? Games are supposed to be fun, not just who can build the biggest and baddest console. Sure, games have to look good but why is everyone so fixed on it. Gameplay used to count for something.
Guess we’ll see how well the PS3 does with its big, bad HD grpahics same time next year when both consoles have been on the market for a year in all regions.
Still, to each his own. Some people are just superficial and some have depth.

Sorry, but it is. Try again Nintendo. Maybe you won’t strike out next time, but also maybe you will be out of business before you get another chance.
Everyone I know is either buying PS3 or XBox-360.

You must not know that much people, Wii is outselling all other consoles. For every Xbox and Ps(2 or 3) sold, there is 5 Wii.

Well, let’s see your numbers and then quote the sources for those numbers if you don’t mind.

look them up yourself, the numbers are everywhere, besides what tells me you’re not going to say my numbers are fake? If you’re a fanboy you’ll say whatever I say is a lie..
Ask people in game stores, they’ll tell you. I have a friend who says 1/3 of all the calls he awnsers are from people who wonders if they have some Wii’s in store, which they don’t, because they’re allways sold out within hours when they get them. This is last week, in January it was 1/2 calls.
I’m no fanboy, so believe what you want, but understand you might be far from the truth.

You made the claim, you support your claim. I’m not going to do the investigative work for you. What we say to each other means nothing without cold hard facts. I would accept I technological news report from a reputable news site as being a fact. It’s not that I don’t believe you, it’s that you make a claim, and in order for me to concede the point, you must support your claim with facts.

Take a look for yourself.
The sources for the unit sales are listed in the info at the bottom of each page.
All I can be arsed looking up.
Drop it and get a life.

You first made the claim Wii is a Joke and nobody buys it, why don’t you prove that? Should I do the investigation for you?
March 19th, 2007 at 11:52 am
…I know a person who bought it, and with the rants online, he has many complaints: Having to buy AA batteries all of the time, disorientation from games, lackluster graphics, and he’s already tired of it and is considering purchasing a PS3 when he gets the money. I may not be right, but the only two reasons the Wii is selling is because
1. It’s cheap enough to toss out when the doubts of the PS3’s power is settled (Killzone, MGS, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, ect)
2. It’s cheap enough to toss out if The Zephyr is produced (and if the rumours are correct, it already is, screwing the 360 owners big time; which by the way will explain the future 360 price drop).
