The Beatles, online?

p2pnet.net news:- At 7:13 am PST, when you keyed, ‘wippit + beatles’ into Google, you got, “The Beatles – Mp3 and music download from The Beatles. Wippit subscription service offers legal download of mp3 music albums and tracks from The Beatles and ……”

“But the full text of the press release, which is dated Wednesday 14 March, is unavailable,” says the BBC.

And, “Oops! This item is in the process of being moved to a big shiny new server,” you saw when you clicked the Google link. “Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Same on the cached page.

“UK download site Wippit indicated it would be first to sell the songs in a headline on its press release pages,” says the BBC item.

But, it continues, EMI, The Beatles’ label, “has moved to dampen rumours that the band’s music is about to become available online.” It goes on:

“Record company EMI said the statement was untrue and has asked for it to be removed. Representatives for Wippit were unavailable for comment.”

Slashdot Slashdot it!
