Microsoft works with Lenovo

p2pnet.net news:- Bill and the Boyz have found a new way to force their “struggling online services business” onto hapless punters.

“Lenovo will integrate the Windows Live Toolbar on computers so that when users start up, they will see it on their desktops,” continues PC World.

This’ll make Lenovo the first computer maker to agree to pre-load Microsoft’s Windows Live toolbar and make its search portal the main service on all new computers worldwide, says Associated Press, going on:

“The deal announced by the two companies Wednesday could help Microsoft in its bid to compete with Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc. for traffic.”

It also makes Live.com the main portal on Lenovo computers, says AP, observing, “Users are free to change the default settings to use Google or another search engine, but many don’t bother.”.

Microsoft wouldn’t disclose the terms or duration of the deal between the two companies, says PC World.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Users are also free to change their operating system or their Web browser, but many likewise don’t bother.

Internet Explorer’s Search Bar already defaults to Live.com when it’s first loaded. I advise Google to see if Microsoft is violating EU antitrust law. If possible, see if they are violating US law too, although I wouldn’t be too hopeful of that given the verdict of United States v. Microsoft.

I think a great solution for pc manufacturers is to build their own brand name toolbars. Why not? http://www.besttoolbars.net is the top software for building your OWN toolbar. I think toolbars are useful – and what great chance to promote you to everybody!
