Adobe releases Apollo code
p2pnet.net news:- Adobe says Apollo is short for a cross-operating system runtime code it’s created to allow developers to leverage Flash, Flex, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax, ” to build and deploy rich Internet applications (RIAs) to the desktop”.
Now the company has released the first public alpha version on Adobe Labs.
Apollo enables application interaction models such as drag-and-drop support, clipboard access, and desktop and system shortcuts, says Adobe, going on:
“Furthermore, Apollo applications run as regular applications, and do not have to run within another application or shell (as web applications do by running within the browser).
Future releases will, “provide more stability, more desktop integration, and enhanced support for Ajax developers,” says Adobe, adding it plans to provide the final release of Apollo and additional developer resources when the pre-release cycle is completed later this year.
With Apollo, “Adobe seems to be making a run at Microsoft by giving users an alternative for building Web-based applications that can also run on the desktop independent of a browser,” says Macworld.
“Microsoft, too, has been ramping up its own strategy to give developers tools for building web applications, but it has been trying to tie those applications to its Windows desktop OS and development environment.”

What can this do that no other programming API can’t? MFC, .NET, and Java can already do it all.
