Broadband users risk disconnects
p2pnet.net news:- Nine million people risk being cut off when broadband providers offer “unlimited” broadband within a ‘fair usage policy’.
That’s the claim of a uSwitch promotion which says providers don’t also tell subscribers where usage limits are.
It says a study it ran showed despite leading broadband providers’ claims offering an “unlimited” broadband service, “each one would be prepared to restrict, suspend or terminate the service of customers who used their service ‘to excess’. What is worse, some of the providers said that they would be prepared to do so without giving prior notice to their customers.”
Seventy-one-milllion customers believe they have an unlimited broadband connection, “putting 9 million subscribers at risk of exceeding their ‘fair usage’ limit,” uSwitch declares.
It’s offering a Usage Barometer to tell people if they a ‘light’, ‘mid’ or ‘heavy’ user.

These fair usage polices are interesting things. But broadband providers have to be very careful of the wording. People in the UK are starting to learn there rights under Unfair Terms and Conductions law in UK.
Just because it says xyz doesn’t mean they can do it. They could put term like they can hit you face and you can not do anything about it. They will say some rubbish like it in there T&C of Fair Usage, but it doesn’t mean it legal.

ASAHI Net in Japan will give you a fiber-optic link at 100 megabits up and downstream for the rough equivalent of US$60/month or LESS, and here we have these pissing ISPs that complain about people actually USING THE MEGABITS THEY’RE PAYING FOR and THREATENING THEM FOR USING THE SERVICE THEY HAVE PAID FOR.
Fuck Time Warner, Comcast, Verizon, and all the rest. I want my 100 megabit fiber-to-the-home connection NOW.
