Apple Leopard: now for October?
p2pnet.net news:- Apple was expected to release its new Leopard OS next month but, “according to industry sources,” it’ll now be held back until almost the end of 2007 because it’s unable to support Vista through an integrated version of its Boot Camp software, says DigiTimes.
Boot Camp is Apple’s commercial version of existing open source dual boot software.
Leopard is now expected in October, says the story.
Is the delay down to Apple’s desire to add functionality for users? That doesn’t appear to be the case.
“The company hopes with support for Vista, Mac computers using the new OS can grab more market share, according to the sources,” says DigitTimes, adding:
“If Leopard supports only Windows XP, then the chances of the new OS attracting Windows users to buy an Apple computer decreases, stated industry observers, noting that with Vista support, Apple’s chances of increasing its share of the PC market would increase.”
