Vista doing well, says MS
p2pnet.net news:- Less than enthusiastic reports and a declining interest in things Microsoft notwithstanding, Bill and the Boyz say they’ve so far sold 20 million copies of Vista.
“Microsoft said it was surprised by how many Vista customers were choosing to buy the premium, more expensive versions of Vista,” says the Los Angeles Times.
The sales numbers include licenses sold to computer makers who then embed systems up with Vista without first offering buyers options such as Linux, copies of upgrades and boxed software sold to retailers.
And of course, “the PC market has grown substantially since XP hit store shelves,” ZDNet UK points out, going on:
“In 2001, worldwide PC shipments totaled 136 million units, while last year the industry shipped 227 million computers, according to IDC.
“And Microsoft’s figures include not only boxed copy sales and those included on new PCs, but also people who bought Windows XP during the holiday season and have applied for their free Vista upgrade since the mainstream launch of Vista.”
Meanwhile, more retailers were stocking computers loaded with the premium versions of the operating system, which come with the Media Center digital entertainment system, says the LA Times, adding”
“The Windows franchise is the centerpiece of Microsoft’s business because the company makes more than 75 cents in operating profit for every dollar of sales. The cash flow generated by Windows allows Microsoft to make investments in new businesses such as digital music players and online services.”

This is another fluff piece to get the customer to jump on the bandwagon. Trying to give the idea that everyone is getting it and you should to.
The part failed to be mentioned is that the amount of PC users have doubled since the days of the issuing of XP with the prices of computers continually dropping over that time span. When taking in to effect the rise in computer users, Vista is only doing half as well as the rose colored glasses show.
M$ knows they have a problem with this OS. Both in convincing the average computer user to upgrade and businesses they should get it. With the heavy purchase price for the premium upgrade and the likelyhood that anyone buying this OS will also have to spend additional money in hardware upgrades to get the best quality in sound and visuals the savvy computer user isn’t just running out to grab it up. There are too many bugs in it at present to make it worthwhile. There are also too many DRM wrappings in it to encourage the average user to take it.
Unless I buy a totally new computer, I think I will pass on this as not being worth the price. Too little bang for the buck.

I will not buy a new PC unless I can tell them to either put XP or Linux on it. If the company doesn’t do that for me, then they do not want my business.

Its because the Vista Home is less capable than XP home.

Just try to buy a new PC with anything BUT vista.
You can’t
Of course sales will be good if that pesky little thing
called ‘choice’ is removed from the equation.
