XBox 360 – on steroids
p2pnet.net news:- Bill and the Boyz have escalated the war to win the wallets and minds of gamers with a souped-up, $480 Xbox 360 toting a 120-gig hard drive and an HDMI video connection, and due to go oin the shelves at the end of April.
People with the $400 20-gig standard versions will be able to buy a snap-on 120-gig drive for $180, which will also be available on April 29. Both the new console and the drive are expected to hit U.S. shelves April 29.
The HDMI connection, “sends high-definition content from the console to the TV without losing picture or sound quality, while also helping prevent piracy,” continues Associated Press.
“Microsoft will keep its other versions of the Xbox 360 at their current prices,” says the Mercury News, going on, “Albert Penello, director of global marketing for the Xbox division, said Microsoft would not relegate its earlier customers to second-class status. That means that any game or service Microsoft launches will play on every version of the Xbox 360, including the Elite.
“That limits how much game developers can exploit the advanced features of the Elite, but it also keeps the earliest customers from feeling like they have to throw away their boxes.”

Prevent Piracy? LMAO. As if one will ever spend the large fortune required on equipment to capture such analog HD component signals when HD-DVD disks are hacked. To think HDMI provides a way to “Prevent Piracy” is nothing short of a joke. To this day I haven’t heard of anyone using analog component signals to “Pirate” HD video. Its just not feasible compared to the results of hacking the disk protection.

Unfortunately the content providers feel differently. The downscaling for HD content over an analog connection is a part of the HDCP system. The use of an HDMI connection is a given if you wish to view your HD content at full quality.

HD-DVD playback at full resolution has been possible over component just fine with the XBOX 360.
