‘Note to self …..’
p2pnet.net news:- “You’re driving down the highway,” posts Mike Elgan on Datamation, when, “Suddenly, you remember that you made a commitment to your boss. If you don’t make a note to yourself right now, you may forget, and fail to keep your commitment. What do you do?
“A) Keep driving, hope you remember later and risk failure.
“B) Find the next exit, park, make a note to yourself and waste time.
“C) Make a note to yourself while driving and risk dying in a horrible accident.
“D) None of the above.”
‘D’ is the correct answer, he says, because you could instead use a free service called Jott.
It gives you a toll-free phone number you can use to store reminders to yourself.
Then it sends you a note
It’s, “great with voice-recognition,” says Elgan. “I’ve been amazed by Jott’s accuracy, and impressed by how it handles ambiguity. If Jott can hear the sound, but doesn’t recognize the word (an unusual name, for example), the note you receive will sound it out in brackets. If it can’t distinguish the sound, it will say ‘inaudible’ in brackets. Jott e-mails also come with a link at the bottom, which play the sound of your recorded message.”
Cool.
“As of this beta, there is no fee to sign up and use Jott,” says the FAQ. “Charges associated with phone minute usage, text messages, internet access, etc. may apply, and Jott does not cover those. Please refer to our Terms of Service for more information.”
Clearly, sooner or later there’ll be some kind of fee, so we phoned to ask for details. We got a ‘leave a message’ message. We emailed them, but the email bounced back.
Meanwhile, “Jott will be eventually supported by advertising, although I haven’t seen any ads yet,” says Elgan, adding, “They also make money by charging you something if you want to exceed the 15-second limit on messages. You have to sign up for that.”

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

isn’t talking on the phone while driving illegal in most states and countries?

Also, it only works for U.S. phone numbers. The rest of the world need not apply.
