Massive TJX hack attack

p2pnet.net news:- Information from at least 45.7 million customer payment cards has been stolen from US retailer TJX and affects stores in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland and Puerto Rico, says the BBC.

TJX owns TJ Maxx, and UK outlet TKMaxx, says the story, going on, “In a statement to US watchdogs the firm said it did not know the full extent of the theft and its effect on customers.”

At least three-quarters of the cards had expired or data had been “masked,” says the story, but a company spokesperson admits, “We don’t know what was in those files – the technology the hacker used prevents TJX from knowing, and also the fact that TJX system routinely deletes files.”

It also said it didn’t know who, or how many people, were behind the attack, or if there had been one breach or many, says the BBC.

Data were accessed on TJX’s systems in Watford, Hertfordshire, and Massachusetts over a 16-month period from July 2005 and covers transactions made by credit and debit card dating as far back as December 2002, states the story.

Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!
