RIAA: ’sprinkles of profanity’

p2pnet.net news:- Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG’s RIAA has come up with a slick, new approach that’s almost as groovy as Ged Doherty’s solution to falling CD sales.

Doherty, chairman and ceo of Sony BMG Music Entertainment Europe, says, “Revenue from live concerts, sponsorship, mobile deals and merchandise will be shared with SonyBMG.”

Well gee, Ged, thanks.

So what’s the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) up to now?

“Untucked shirt and sprinkles of profanity.”

Yup. That’s it.

Head over to geekmethod.com and you’ll read:

Yesterday, David Hughes, senior vice-president of technology for the RIAA, held an open discussion about digital music and software piracy at Arizona State University. The talk was mostly civil - despite some sincerely lame protest attempts, the majority of the discussion was David offering the RIAA’s position on software piracy and the future of the music industry.

We especially enjoyed his attempts to be ‘hip’ and ‘cool’ (which we hear the kids like these days), with his untucked shirt and sprinkles of profanity.

Yeah ok, way to relate there, suit-guy. I think there is a rule somewhere that if you are sporting 75% chromedome, you cannot wear your shirt untucked with a sport jacket.

We were able to record the discussion, so you can hear [and see] first-hand what the RIAA has to say about state of the music industry, pirating, lawsuits, and DRM.

It’s April 1, but this is no joke.

Nor is Doherty’s fix. And just to prove how desperate Sony BMG is, they’re funding his New Solution through Google Adsense.

(Thanks, Jazz)

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!
