Sirius TV for backseat drivers

p2pnet.net news:- Chrysler is to offer Sirius ‘family’ TV for some 2008 vehicles.

It’ll be a first, and Backseat TV will feature programming from Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network including Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Disney’s Hannah Montana and Cartoon Net’s Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, says AdWeek.

It’ll be available later this year for a suggested retail price of $470, says the story, going on:

“The cost includes the first year of service when packaged with Chrysler Group’s rear seat entertainment system and Sirius Satellite Radio. After the first year, Backseat TV is available for $7 per month, in addition to $12.95 for the subscription radio service.”

Chrysler will start with its 2008 Chrysler product line, and Backseat TV will also be available, “on the 2008 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee,” says TVTechnology.com, adding:

“The system operates with an in-vehicle satellite video receiver and two small roof-mounted antennas.

“Programming is displayed on the vehicle’s second- and/or third-row video screens, with channel name, program title and rating displayed on the screen or screens. Rear-seat passengers can watch the backseat TV while front-seat occupants listen to Sirius.”

Realistically, though, will it compete with rear-seat DVD? And will parents want to expose their kids to even more on-screen advertising than they do already?

Slashdot Slashdot it!
