Rogers video phones

p2pnet.net news:- Canada’s Rogers Communications says it’s the first wireless carrier in North America to offer video calling to cell phone subscribers on its HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) network.

This’ll essentially, “let subscribers use their cell phones much like Web cameras to complete video calls,” says Reuters. “It’ll also offer access to various video and music services on its cell phones, including the top 50 video clips on YouTube every week.”

Recently, “Canadian telephone company Telus partnered with private mobile entertainment company Amp’d Mobile to deliver games, videos and music to cell phones,” says the story, adding:

“Amp’d provides the content and handsets, while Telus handles sales, distribution, billing and pricing.”

But Telus came unstuck when it started peddling pictures of another kind.

In January, it proudly boasted it was the first wireless provider in Canada to start marketing pornographic photos and videos.

It was peddling porn at $3-4 for each download —- until its scheme was attacked by Raymond Roussin, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Vancouver, among others, forcing it to abandon its “initiative”.

Slashdot Slashdot it!

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!
