Apple TV DIY

p2pnet.net news:- Apple is pulling out all the plugs in its efforts to get you to spend, “$300 for the box and then further non-stop increments of $10 and up to buy a very limited selection of movies you could otherwise have rented from your local video stores for a couple of dollars, and without download hassles”.

Predictably, the modders and hackers are out there in force, but there have been no cries of outrage from Steve and his merry men.

Why’s that? It’s simple. Free product development.

Here’s what Engadget says.

“In its current form it doesn’t do half the things you’d want such a device to do. But in just the two weeks since Aple TV went on the shelves,:

There’s already an aftermarket of hard drive upgrades for users who find 40 gigs way too small. Step-by-step instructions for turning it into a $299 Mac have been published. And who knows what streaming formats the box has been secretly coaxed to play?

So although Apple didn’t actually say it’s your box, do with it what you please (those were Engadget’s words), that may very well be the message. Steve Jobs - and whoever he’s negotiating with in Hollywood - have more to learn than to lose from whatever the Mod’ders do to their Apple TVs.

Say no more ;P

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!
