Sgt Pepper redux

p2pnet.net news:- This year is the 40th anniversary of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers and The Fratellis plan to record songs from it on a ‘tribute’ album.

Razorlight and James Morrison will also feature in special sessions for BBC Radio 2, says the BBC, and they’ll be recorded by sound engineer Geoff Emerick with the original four-track equipment he used to tape the Fab Four in person 40 years ago.

Sgt Pepper II will be broadcast on June 2, a day after the anniversary, says the story.

Has to be an EMI-backed venture which’ll no doubt eventually be issued as an official release.

Question 1 is, when that happens, given EMI’s apparent plans to dump DRM (Digital Restrictions Management), will Sgt Pepper # 2 be free of consumer control?

Question 2 would be, How long before it turns up online and the subpoenas start flying?

And Question 3 is, How will Paul McCartney horn in on it?

Stay tuned.
