Madonna turns Green

p2pnet.net news:- The world is saved! Madonna, Genesis, James Blunt, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and Duran Duran are all going Green!

They’ll be among corporate acts at the London, England, end of a global series of Live Earth concerts, says the BBC.

The idea is to set a “green example” for other music events, “by using measures such as eco-friendly electricity, sustainable lighting and carbon-neutral travel,” says the story, going on:

“Former US Vice-President Al Gore, who is one of those involved in organising the events, said he expected Live Earth to attract ‘an audience of billions’.”

In the US, The Police, Kanye West and Bon Jovi will be among acts appearing at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey, says the Beeb.

July 7 is the date set for the shows and, “Star names will appear at events in the United States, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Japan and China during a day of music that organisers say will ‘deliver a call to action’ on global warming – and provide some practical solutions to dealing with climate change,” says The Times Online.

“A novice as a stadium rock promoter, Mr Gore has engaged Kevin Wall and Harvey Goldsmith, the producers of Live8, to secure his wish list of music megastars,” says the story. “However, the organisers of Live Earth are aware that the concerts themselves will require a vast amount of kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity to be staged.”

So ——

—– they’ve hired John Picard, a “sustainability expert and former member of President Clinton’s White House environmental task force,” to help to generate the first green rock shows.

“The electricity used at the concerts will be from biodiesel generators and renewable utility supplies” and “Vehicles used to transport the likes of Madonna and Kanye West to the stage will be petrol-electric hybrids or run on other clean fuel sources. VIP air travel required to get stars to the stadiums will be offset by carbon credits.”

Tickets, to be rationed, will cost £55 (today, about $109) each and, “All profits will go to organisations including the Alliance for Climate Protection, the Climate Group and Stop Climate Chaos,” says the BBC.

Slashdot Slashdot it!

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

  1. Reader's Write Says:

What better way to save the environment than to have billions of televisions blaring all day across the world to watch rock concerts?

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Exactly. What would we do without them?

    Cheers!
