The killings at Virginia Tech

p2pnet.net news:- Yesterday morning p2pnet had an email from a reader in Virginia. It told of the terrible slaughter at Virginia Tech and Jay, the author, didn’t know what was happening, how many people had been murdered, who was behind them, or even if the killings were still going on.

Later, “I go to Virginia Tech, and I can honestly say that the atmosphere here is one of disruption and some remorse, although it is far from panic,” said posted CSMatt.

“I personally wasn’t in the area at the time (although I was in a nearby building on campus), but I know someone who says that they were, and he was pretty messed up by the experience. Everybody else here is now either watching the news with everybody else or just trying to enjoy their day off.”

Here’s the most recent (as of 5:40 am PST) update from Virginia Tech:

State, local, and federal law enforcement officials continue their round-the-clock investigation of the multiple fatal shootings that took place on the Virginia Tech campus the morning of Monday, April 16, 2007.

Within the past 24 hours, a search warrant was executed on the dorm room of Cho Seung-Hui, 23, in Harper Hall. Investigators are still determining the evidentiary value of papers and assorted items seized from the room.

Investigators have also been following up on leads related to the two weapons recovered at the scene in Norris Hall. The two weapons used in this incident were a 9-milimeter handgun and a 22-caliber handgun. Investigators have traced the weapons and confirmed that Cho did legally purchase them in accordance with Virginia law.

There is no evidence at this time to suggest that Cho left behind or distributed a suicide note.

The Virginia State Police have been coordinating the notification of the victims’ next-of-kin with local authorities around the country. At this time, all families have been tentatively notified.

The major thrust of the Medical Examiner’s Office today has been obtaining fingerprint records to identify the victims. These records must be obtained from local, state, federal, and international agencies. Staff at the Medical Examiner’s Office is working 12-hour shifts with staff resources from all over the state to expedite the scientific collection of evidence and positive identification of the deceased. This process is expected to continue for several more days.

Virginia Tech expresses its shock and profound sorrow regarding the tragic campus shootings of April 16, 2007. To honor and remember the victims, this website has been created so those within the university community and around the world may share condolences, thoughts, and prayers.

The school has also launched a memorial site.

Predictably, it’s monitored. “Virginia Tech staff will moderate this website, and ask that comments remain civil and appropriate,” it says. “Please be patient as comments are reviewed before posting, and as we are receiving literally hundreds of comments per hour.”

There’s also a toll-free information line for parents and family at 1-800-533-1144.

Among the victims was a Canadian teacher, Jocelyne Couture-Nowak. In 2001 her husband, professor Jerzy Nowak, “took a new job as head of the Department of Horticulture at Virgnia Tech, and where Couture-Nowak became a French languages professor,” says the Montreal Gazette.

US federal investigators say Cho, a South Korean immigrant, “left behind a note that they described as a lengthy, rambling and bitter list of complaints focusing on moral laxity and double-dealing he found among what he viewed as wealthier and more privileged students on campus,” says The New York Times.

“In all, 33 people died Monday, including Mr. Cho and at least four faculty members.”

“It is sad and humbling to acknowledge that no policy — short of banning all forms of human weaponry, and locking up everyone who strikes his classmates or co-workers as a depressed oddball — can reliably prevent tragedies of the type that struck Virginia Tech this week. But that is the unfortunate truth.”

I cannot agree with that statement.

It takes TWO items to create a gun shooting.
    A gun and a person.
Eliminate one of those items and you cannot have a gun shooting.

The only way to stop people killing people is to find out why they want to do it and either resolve their issues or if they’re untreatable kill them first. Mandatory psych testing of everyone each year during school would have caught this guy and prevented this incident.

Banning guns would simply have made him use another method. I could think up a dozen ways to kill more than 10 people without using anything resembling a weapon and which couldn’t possibly be banned. I won’t mention them because some psycho might be reading this site and suddenly decide ‘Hey that’s a great idea! I’m gonna do that one!’

Three things come to mind about this incident.

!. A bigger argument about Immigration in general denying a green card to mentally disturbed foreign nationals and deportation.

    2. Deny gun purchases to people who are not american nationals including resident aliens with green cards.

#.Bring back the mental hospital system so people like this nutball can be committed.

The saying “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” means NOT TO BULLY and make fun of less fortunate people, etc.” (along with other things I’m sure)

When someone kills a lot of people like that – even though it is found most were insane – they are still punished as if they were normal. I have no problem with that.

As a former child in school that so many people rejected and made fun of – I’ll tell you this IT LEAVES a lasting IMPRESSION on your heart the rest of your life. I’m almost 60 years old and when I feel like I’m being rejected or made fun of “my heart still aches”.

I believe from kindergarden even through college – that administrators should ban bullies from their schools. These bullies usually have “fan clubs” that help in chanting and laughing – they need to go to. There should be schools in every state where those types of people ARE TOGETHER and they can just fight all they’d like !!!

What I’m saying is – if kids were not so cruel and mean – a lot of these senseless murders would probably not happen – especially if the person they demean has personality disorders or other mental
problems. Some parents don’t just teach their children they are equl – THEY evidently teach them they are better than others !!

Nothing hurts as bad as going to a school being picked on while a group of popular, well heeled folks stand around and laugh. Just maybe enviornmental psychotics are created by those “popular, beautiful kids huh????)

I’m thinking that since it’s been brought out that this killer was mistreated in middle school – that just maybe even college kids still have their fan clubs and exclude others that they make fun of. you’d think by then that they would be adult enough to have compassion for someone so apparently disturbed.

I am very sorry for all the people killed and their loved ones and family and also for the family of the killer.

That is stupid! If you actuially think that taking away guns from HONEST citizens is the answer I do not agree.

If guns are outlawed…the only people WITH guns is going to be the OUTLAWS!

Think about this….if they don’t have a gun, then anything else will do….a hammer, chainsaw, etc. You really cannot stop a murder ahead of time if the person in question is determined to carry it out and they are smart enough to act cool until they do, like this guy did.
