Google: raking in the dollars
p2pnet.net news:- You can’t escape it, online or off.
Advertising, that is.
And, “Ad familiarity breeds content for Google,” is the way the Financial Times sums sums it up.
“A growing familiarity with search engine advertising in international markets, including a new burst of growth in the UK, contributed to another quarter of outperformance at Google, figures released on Thursday showed,” says the story.
After subtracting advertising commissions, Google’s revenue totaled $2.53 billion, says Associated Press.
“That amount was about $40 million more than analyst estimates.”

And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Of course you can escape advertising online, it’s easy.
1. Use a browswer that can be set to block pop-ups.
2. Turn off the automatic loading of pictures, which will stop a lot of basic banner ads.
3. Turn off or disable your flash and other multimedia plugins.
4. Use a firewall that allows you to enter the url of ad servers to be blocked.
5. Ads gone. 99% of ads get blocked always and the other 1% get added to the block list of my firewall and never get seen twice.
Sure i can’t visit websites that use flash to navigate around, but only morons use flash to do that anyway and i’ve found perhaps 5 sites like that in about 13 years of surfing the net. I think i can live with those odds.
Oh and if you play a pc game that uses ingame advertising, try and find out the url of the ad server and then use your firewall to block it. No more ingame ads either. It’s not like seeing those ads is saving you any money.
