Recalling 27,000 batteries in the US, Acer says some rechargeable lithium ion batteries containing cells made by Sony Energy Devices Corp could overheat and cause a fire.
“Consumers should only use the notebook computer using AC power until a replacement battery pack is received,” says the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, going on:
“As announced previously, there have been 16 reports of notebook batteries overheating. These reports were associated with earlier recalls by other notebook computer manufacturers of batteries containing these Sony cells.”
Anyone using the dodgy bastteries (click here for a complete list) should stop and immediately and contact Acer to receive a free replacement battery, says the commission.
For help and to request a free replacement battery pack, go to Acer’s web site, or contact Acer toll-free at (800) 503-2330 anytime.
