p2pnet.net OT news:- What IS it with Bloody Barney?

At the beginning of April we posted this pic with a story saying p2pnet is experiencing what seems to be a Barney Boom.

p2pnet’s Bloody Barney pix show consistently in our stats, day after day, and when we looked yesterday afternoon at 4:34 PST, the April post, we’ll call it Bloody Barney 2, had clocked up 1,532 views. The post it refers to, Bloody Barney 1, which went up in October, 2005, had reached 3,311 views.

And p2pnet’s own views don’t register on the page hit counter.

At 11:25 today BB2 was at 1,542 and BB1, 3,396

On big sites, this wouldn’t amount to a whole lot. They get those kinds of numbers every 10 minutes. But more than 50 hits a day for a post that’s been up for not quite a month?

So we did a little looking around and Lo!. We’re not alone in finding Barney very, very scary.

There’s the Barney Jihad, for example.

“So you want to know what’s really going on, eh?” - says the site, continuing:

Heh.

Then, “Which one is scarier?” - asks justsara on her Yahoo Answers page.

The p2pnet Bloody Barney? Or Michael Jackson? Hard to say. heh

Or how about Brian Bull’s “Day of the Barney” trilogy?

“There are people who don’t want me to love you, and want to take you away from me,” says a clip, going on

These people are very bad, and want to hurt your loving friend Barney. Some of them may be people who are very close to you. But do you know what?”

The audience of children silently yet anxiously awaited the answer. An unholy stillness had fallen upon the crowd. Many of the adults began to feel isolated, targeted…..unwelcome.

“None of them, not a single one, loves you as much as I do. I’m your only real friend in the world. I really love you, I do! But these bad people don’t.

Some of them may be your neighbors. Some of them may be your teachers. And some of them…..”

“Who, Barney, who?!?” shrieked a young girl from a barricade.

“…some of them may be _your_ parents!”

OH! The Horror!

Like:

Make him watch his own show

Get him to read “The Canonical List of Blonde Jokes” to a room full of feminists

Move every third molecule 3 feet to the left until he closely resembles Picasso’s “Guernica”.

Band saw

Have him star in an Energizer commercial substituting for the Bunny, and have the guy lie about which battery really lasts longer.

Lock him in a suitcase and leave at the Denver airport. I don’t think they’ve fixed their suitcase-eating baggage carousel yet.

Ah me. The list of sites is endless ……………………..

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!
