Eyespot ‘end-to-end solution’
p2pnet.net news:- “We’ve fine tuned and honed a complex suite of tools to offer a compelling service that will excite fans and end users while also addressing the justifiable concerns of entertainment giants,” says Eyespot ceo Jim Kaskade. “This represents a win-win for the online community and rights holders. Using Audible Magic’s content recognition solution as part of the Eyespot platform allows this media to be legally available to play with.”
Cynics believe phrases such as “win-win for the online community and rights holders” often mean it’s time to be extra careful; and, that ‘play with’ is frequently corporate double-speak for ‘get them to do a bunch of work without paying them’.
Eyespot is offering, “white label services to brands and portals to profit from user-generated media,” says a statement, going on that the company has, “perfected an end-to-end solution to create a thriving community of social media creators while providing the opportunity to bolster the value of catalog and content assets.”
Translated, Eyespot is hoping ’social media creators’ – that’s you – will use your skills, for free, on carefully selected DRM-ed downloads ‘protected’ by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) favourite Audible Magic to the benefit of the entertainment cartels.
“Eyespot is building a unique network where premium content meets user-generated content,” according to Audible Magic’s Vance Ikezoye. “Using our digital content recognition technology [read DRM], Eyespot is enabling what we see as the first content playground on a massive scale, with online users interacting with content consistent with the rights holders’ rules.”
At least, they hope it’ll be on a massive scale.
And, “To further soothe the furrowed brows of copyright holders,” Eyespot also touts “an administrative moderation tool [spy system?] ” to “filter out [censor?] any inappropriate media before mashups are available for embedding or sharing”.
The, “entire playground platform is designed to alleviate the security concerns of media owners so that fan favorites will be legally available for users to play with and share on social media networks and blog,” adds the puff piece.
Don’t trouble to stay tuned.
