Intel funds Skype competitor
p2pnet.net news:- Intel has invested an undisclosed amount in VoIP firm Jajah, a Voice over IP firm, and the company will also get access to Intel’s own patents.
At the moment, the company is charging 3.1 cents per minute for US calls, 3.4 cpm for France, 3.5 cpm for Spain, 3.5 cpm for China, and 3.3 cpm for the UK.
Similar to Skype except users don’t have to download software or attach a headset to their computer, Jajah, “already boasts a community of 3 million users, and claims to be adding 400,000 every month,” says the Times Online.
Jajahs co-founder Roman Scharf says the money, part of a $20 million third round of venture funding, wwill pay for further R&D, build partnerships in emerging markets such as India, and explore PR and marketing opportunities, says the story.
Started in 2005 and headquartered in the US, it’s the brainchild of Daniel Mattes and Scharf and went live in February last year.
Jajah users key in their phone numbers and the numbers they’re calling into the company’s site.
Calls between landlines already hooked into joined up to Jajah are free.
