Police, reporter, soldier arrested
p2pnet.net news:- Two British police officers, a reporter and a soldier are among five people arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive police material to the media and “other parties”.
Premises were searched and property seized.
“A joint investigation by Thames Valley police and Hertfordshire constabulary sparked the arrests, but the nature of the alleged offences is still not clear,” says Guardian Unlimited, going on:
“A Thames Valley officer and a Hertfordshire officer were arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. A journalist from the Thames Valley area, a 52-year-old Hertfordshire man, and a soldier from Cambridgeshire were arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting misconduct in public office.”
The journalist was questioned for 36 hours and several addresses in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire were searched, says The Telegraph, adding:
“A spokesman for Thames Valley Police, the force that led the joint operation with Hertfordshire Police, said the investigation did not have anything to do with the Army or military information.”
‘Sources’ are, and always have been, an important way for journalists to gather information which might otherwise remain undisclosed.
