Scotty lost, but not in space

p2pnet.net OT news:- Scotty, engineer of the Enterprise in the famed Star Trek series, seems to be lost. But not in space.

Canada’s James Doohan died two years ago, aged 85, and his ashes were to have been carried to the inner limits. A rocket carrying the remains of Doohan and 200 others, at almost $500 each, was launched on April 29 as part of a memorial package. Among the passengers was astronaut Gordon Cooper.

“Beaming him up was the easy part,” says Reuters, “the problem was transporting him back to Earth.”

Relatives send small samples of their loved ones’ ashes into sub-orbital space, explains The Register. The ashes are supposed to be recovered with memorial plaques, “detailing their final journey”.

The “memorial spaceflight” rocket, “descended by parachute into a rugged area that a search team has repeatedly failed to reach,” says Reuters.

“They know the general location, and we have the utmost confidence that they will recover it,” the story has Susan Schonfeld, a spokeswoman for Houston-based Space Services Inc, which organized the flight, saying.

he search had been hampered by “horrendous” weather, but she, “expected the Up Aerospace Spaceloft XL craft to be recovered in coming days,” it adds.
