Warner Bros Hong Kong adventure

p2pnet.net news:- US movie company Warner Bros is blowing cold on Canada, but hot on Hong Kong in what may be Part Deux of its mission to tackle duplicators and counterfeiters, aka ‘pirates’.

Warner, and its Hollywood compatriots, have been heavily pressuring the weak Canadian government to give in to demands to create a new law aimed at making it illegal to use camcorders in cinemas.

Canada is THE haven for crooks who use camcorders to copy features in theatres for later sale on the Net or street corners, the studios claim.

Now, “To combat piracy one country at a time, Warner Bros. said this week that it will launch a new movie download service in Hong Kong,” says Reuters, going on:

“Dubbed 08Media, the service will be offered by ViDeOnline Communications. Movies such as the Harry Potter franchise and Superman Returns will be available for Hong Kong viewers immediately. Warner Bros. said that 100 titles initially via the new service will deter consumers from paying for bootleg movies. Additional titles may also hit 08Media the day of the theatrical release.”

ViDeOnline boss Priscilla Lu, “said the company uses digital video watermarking and other technology to guard against copying,” the story adds.

“Third party providers such as major Hollywood movie studios and global music distributors supply ViDeOnline with content that is ingested, edited, encrypted and repackaged for distribution,” says the company site.
