MySpace deletes sex offenders

p2pnet.net news:- Rupert Murdoch’s MySpace has decided discretion is the better part of giving in to demands made by some US attorney generals.

Eight AGs asked it to hand over the names of registered sex offenders who log onto the site. Instead, it deleted the profiles.

“In a statement, MySpace’s chief security officer said state and federal laws prohibit the Web site from sharing such information,” says the Chicago Sun-Times.

MySpace didn’t say which specific laws it would break, says the story.

“Software to identify and remove sex offenders from the site has been used for 12 days, and MySpace has ‘removed every registered sex offender that we identified out of our more than 175 profiles’,” it quotes spokesman Hemanshu Nigam as stating.
