p2pnet.net news:- “What the eye doesn’t see the heart doesn’t dream about,” goes an old saying. But is that true?
“A certain open minded graphic artist is going to get a bollocking today!” – posted Pureoverclock.com at the end of last month, also displaying the pic on the right.
“Apparently the 8600 packaging currently being used by XFX has the word EVGA being devoured in the jaws of a rabid beast,” it said, referring to an earlier story in TweakTown, which states:
Now courtesy to the Dutch Hardware-Info for this because they spotted it. Yet I could not believe it when i heard it, it sounded just too silly. Yesterday I was made aware of the fact that the XFX 8600 boxes which have the dog logo on them .. have something else embedded. Now if you look at the mouth of the dog .. you see teeth and drool / slime. Now when I first checked this I had the 8600 GTS box in my hands and spotted nothing, then dismissed the rumour.
However, EVGA says Germany trade regulators have ordered its rival XFX, a division of Pine Technology, “to stop selling graphics cards that potentially insult EVGA as a company,” says Xbit, going on, “If XFX does not comply to demands, it may be fined …”
Not only but also, executives could be jailed for up to six months.
The story continues:
Back in April XFX started to sell Nvidia GeForce 8600-series graphics cards inside packages that display an enraged dog with saliva containing EVGA logotype dripping outside the jaws. Even though the logotype could not be seen without special tools, several web-sites has discovered it and posted appropriate images on the Internet.
According to a statement by EVGA, a Munich, Germany-based court finds that the product packaging infringes EVGA’s rights and ordered XFX to stop selling products inside appropriate boxes in Germany. The local court called the image as ‘competition-adverse unfair reviling’, but the ruling was made to stop selling graphics boards due to prohibition of usage of EVGA logotypes.”
EVGA and XFX are, “fiercely competing against each other for a lucrative market of pre-overclocked graphics cards based on graphics processing units from Nvidia Corp,” adds Xbit.
