Apple MacBooks ‘defective’

p2pnet.net news:- Two California Macolytes say Apple has been making false claims.

Looking for class action status, Fred Greaves and Dave Gatley say MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks can’t display the “millions of colors” promised by Apple.

They allege, “Apple falsely claimed, in advertising and technical specifications about its notebooks, that the units offered display quality superior to other brands’ models when, in fact, the displays were no better than the others,” says MacNewsWorld, continuing that Greaves and Gatley want class action status, “on behalf of all MacBook and MacBook Pro buyers for the past four years”.

To make matters worse, if XP is run on the same system using Apple’s own Boot Camp dual-boot software, says the lawsuit, “all resolution levels [are] superior to the display that those same computers display using Apple’s OS operating system,” according to Computerworld, which goes on:

The lawsuit also alleges that when display problems were reported to Apple, company representatives “chastised” users, who “were told that they were imagining the complained-about defects.” It also claimed that Apple purged posts on its own support message forums that were critical of display quality. The Apple discussion thread cited in the lawsuit was not available today and returned the message “Error: you do not have permission to view the requested forum or category” when an attempt to access it was made.

Greaves and Gatley say Apple, “rejected complaints about screen quality, refused to replace or refund users complaining of the problem, and deleted messages voicing these grievances from its support website,” states Macworld, adding:

“The class action demands that Apple provide relief, cease selling defective laptops and should: ‘Resolve the past, present and future issues that (the) misrepresentation inherent defect (sp) has created concerning MacBooks already sold’.”

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

This has actually been going on for quite some time. Only now, after months of manufacturing and distributing faulty products, does Apple’s dirty little secret finally get caught in the limelight. And just weeks away from WWDC.

    Karma is such a bitch.
