Killing Spyware
p2pnet.net News:- There are a lot of shock-horror Spyware stories floating around right now and there are just as many ‘expert’ commmercial firms setting up shop to cash in on the fear generated as a result.
Some work. Some don’t.
But you can bet on Patrick Kolla’s absolutely free Spybot – Search & Destroy which still rules as one of, if not the, best decontamination apps around.
How do you know if you’ve been bugged?
Symptoms can include the sudden appearance of new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn’t intentionally install; unexplained browser crashes; your browser start page changes without your knowing
“But even if you don’t see anything, you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile of you that will be sold to advertisement companies,” as Kolla says on his web page here.
To get you started, Spybot – Search & Destroy:
Removes adware and spyware (you already know what this is : )
Removes dialers
Removes keyloggers
Removes trojans and other baddies
And since it is free, there’s no harm seeing if someone’s bugged your box.
The version 1.3 beta was released today. You can download it from beta news here, or from here.

Just use Mozilla (ie Firefox etc) and you’ll cut down on a lot of the BS.
