Good Copy Bad Copy: see it

p2pnet.net news:- A really interesting, really well made, feature length Danish documentary on copyright is currently doing the rounds.

Called Good Copy Bad Copy, it might well draw its title from Good Cop Bon Cop, a dark Canadian comedy that’s fast becoming a cult movie around the world, with Canada currently in the spotlight following a decision by prime minister Stephen Harper to kowtow to Hollywood.

Thanks to his government, anyone caught camcording a made-in-Hollywood movie in a Canadian cinema will become a criminal.

Said an Agency France-Presse piece:

The aroma of buttery popcorn wafted through the halls of Canada’s parliament Friday as Heritage Minister Bev Oda unveiled new rules to curb movie pirating, bowing to Hollywood pressure to act.

“Piracy and mass copying of films has had a significant and direct impact on the entire film industry, including producers, directors, actors and creators,” said Oda against a backdrop of blockbuster movie posters.

“The government is acting to increase protection of their works,” she said to rousing applause and a standing ovation from invited film industry folks, as soft drinks, cotton candy and buckets of popcorn were distributed.

Amendments to the Criminal Code would make it illegal to videotape movies in a cinema and distribute copies for commercial gain, punishable by two years and fives in jail, respectively.

Good Copy Bad Copy takes a walk on what the movie industry is trying to convince us is the wild side. It discusses the current state of copyright and culture.
