YouTube - With DRM !
p2pnet.net news:- Google’s YouTube is on the verge of testing new video DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) consumer control technology custom-built with Time Warner and Walt Disney in mind.
Developed by Google, it’ll, “help content owners such as movie and TV studios identify videos uploaded to the site without the copyright owner’s permission, legal,” says Reuters.
“The so-called video fingerprinting tools, which identify unique attributes in the video clips, will be available for testing in about a month, a YouTube executive said.”
Google is already trying out so-called audio-fingerprinting applications with the corporate music industry, the story has Chris Maxcy, YouTube partner development director, stating.
“These tools will be used to identify copyrighted material, after which media companies can decide if they would like to remove the material or keep it up, as part of a revenue-sharing deal with YouTube, which can sell advertising alongside it,” says Reuters.
Other companies planned to test it, but Maxcy would only identify Time Warner and Walt Disney, says Reuters, adding:
“Maxcy said that over time, Google planned to add additional layers of technology to better spot content on its service.”

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

This isn’t really DRM because restrictions don’t follow the file. I’m kind of glad the’re doing this in a way. I’m so sick of loading videos and some boring, overplayed, annoying radio song is in the background. I just turn my sound off.
