iTunes on Britain’s Bebo
p2pnet.net news:- UK social networking site Bebo, which recently named ex-Google executive Joanna Shields as president of its international arm, has done a deal with Apple to sell iTunes directly through the site.
It says this is the first time the iPod download application has been offered in this way.
“The site already has around 500,000 bands using its ‘Bebo Bands”‘ service and a partnership with the digital downloading company 7Digital enables those artists to sell directly to Bebo users,” says The Independent.
Sales will count toward official charts in the UK, the US and 20 other countries, says the story, adding 7Digital said in a separate announcement it’ll, “take on iTunes after launching a web-based ‘Locker’ service” towards the end of the year.
But there’s a qualifier.
Although the deal will involve songs being sold on bands and singers’ profile pages, that’ll only happen if if their music is already available on iTunes, says TechDigest.
