iTunes price hike in Japan

p2pnet.net news:- More bad news for Sony, beset by problems ranging from the ongoing PR disaster linked to the spyware debacle when it was caught red-handed planting dangerous DRM software on music CDs, through a serious lack of interest in its PlayStation 3, to laptop batteries with a tendency to burst into flame, to name but three.

Now Yahoo Japan and Apple say iTunes has usurped Mora, run by Sony affiliate LabelGate, as the default music store on Yahoo Music Japan, according to the IDG News Service.

“Access to Mora is still available through Yahoo Japan although users must log in to the site and make it their preferred music store,” says the story, adding, “the Japanese deal doesn’t necessarily foretell similar alliances in other markets.

Yahoo is a minority shareholder in Yahoo Japan, “owning about one-third of the company,” says ITWire. “The largest stake is held by Softbank.”

Should iTunes users rejoice? Not. Because it would seem they’ll now have to pay more for their already seriously overpriced iTunes downloads.

They’ll have to fork out $1.40 instead of $1, says Softpedia.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

And of course when sales go down they’ll blame P2P.
