AllofMP3.com vs iTunes

p2pnet.net news:-”Rich Menta from mp3newswire published an interesting article in which he explains why he still hasn’t used the full 20$ on the Gift Card he received a year ago,” says an email from our m8 Fred over in Holland.

He goes on:

The bottom line: iTunes is just too expensive.

It makes you wonder what the average AllofMP3 user is spending. Well I can’t give you thoroughly calculated figures, but in the AllofMP3.com forums I stumbled upon Acordis who tells he has spent $1020 in just over 12 months.

How about that? And the responses in that thread reveal that Acordis isn’t the only one to spend close to $ 1000 a year.

It’s basic economics I guess. If a product is expensive you buy less. If something is cheap you buy more and in the end you spend way more than you originally intended. The feeling of striking a bargain is irresistible.

It makes you wonder why the music industry doesn’t just copy the Allofmp3 business model.

Remember? 4 million users despite of thresholds like having to pay to a Russian site? What if you removed that threshold?

All the best from The Netherlands.

(Cheers, Fred, and thanks)

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Sad that it’s become almost impossible to give AllOfMp3 money.

    Well not quite.
    Check http://www.museekster.com/allofmp3payments.htm or http://www.aom3.org.

There will always be alternatives, even if Mp3Sparks closes down too: there is a huge list of sites similar to AllOfMP3 at songboom.com that explains the differences between them all with a side-by-side comparison.
