New Swarthmore action group
p2pnet.net News:- Swarthmore College students are launching an international student organization to fight coercive copyright practices and other threats to the free flow of information.
Lawrence Lessig is slated to be the keynote speaker when the International Movement for Free Culture with its FreeCulture.org goes officially online in April 23.
Swarthmore students – in particular Nelson Pavlosky and Luke Smith – were strikingly successful in keeping ’secret’ files centering on the Diebold scandal available on the Net.
Thousands of Diebold Election Systems direct recording electronic (DRE) vote boxes were used across the US. and, “Our reliable and efficient system accurately and securely captures each vote,” Diebold boasted – while 40,000 emails and memos that “amounted to a virtual handbook for vote-tampering” were freely available online.
Swarthmore activists have also been able to focus significant attention on the RIAA and DMCA in other actions.
With them in the International Movement for Free Culture is DownhillBattle.org of Grey Tuesday fame, one of the Net’s most dynamic action groups.
