OJ Simpson ‘If I Did It’: by email

p2pnet.net OT news:- We had a couple of interesting emails when we logged on this morning.

“Will Simpson special end up on Internet?” – wondered an Associated Press headline in November last year, going on, “Accompanying book to be destroyed, but some copies could leak out.”

Attached to our two missives were one .pdf and one .txt copy of ‘If I Did It,’ O.J Simpson’s unreleased book ‘hypothetically’ explicating how he might have murdered his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her boy-friend, Ronald Goldman, in 1994.

Slated for release on November 30, 2006, it was canceled by the publisher on November 20, 2006.

Simpson was reportedly paid $3.5 million and, “While the book has been almost impossible to find on the secondary market as a result, one copy did show up on eBay on January 15, 2007, with a starting bid of $1500, and sold for over $65,000 fueling speculation about whether News Corp was able to destroy all printed copies,” says the Wikipedia.

“James Wolcott of Vanity Fair obtained a ‘pristine hardcover’ of the book for a review published in January 2007.”

Well, now p2pnet and, presumably, several thousand other people, also have a copy. It may not be hard-cover, but it’s certainly pristine. And we’re selling downloads for a mere 10 cents each.

Just kidding.

Included is THE INTERROGATION (in caps) which kicks off:

On June 13, 1994, a little after 1:30 P.M., I found myself in an interrogation room at Parker Center, in downtown Los Angeles, talking to Philip Vannatter and Thomas Lange, the two cops who were leading the investigation. The interview lasted thirty-two minutes, and the entire transcript follows ….”

We flicked through ‘If I Did It’ quickly.

You haven’t missed a thing.

Meanwhile, a purported YouTube video of the never-(officially)-published book’s “interview promo” is still up.

================UPDATE:

A legal trustee controlling the manuscript wants TMZ held in contempt of court.

“Last week, a judge gave the trustee authority to sell the manuscript and give the proceeds to the Goldman family,” says TMZ, going on, “Fred Goldman, who was initially outraged that Simpson would try and peddle a book about how he might have committed the killings, had a change of heart and wanted the script sold and the proceeds directed his way.”

Says the court document:

In an amazing and disappointing coincidence, on June 19, 2007, it came to the attention of Trustee Dillworth that the website www.DMZ.com (the “TMZ Website”) published the Manuscript through a direct web link on the TMZ Website. It is important to emphasise the widespread dissemination of the manuscript became available as a result of the TMZ’s decision to publish the Manuscript in readily accessible PDF format on the TMZ website. For approximately 2 hours, any internet user, anywhere in the world, could literally download the Manuscript in readily accessible PDF format and load it into their hard-drives for dissemination to any e-mail user across the globe.

The trustee’s lawyer wants TMZ ordered to reveal how it obtained the manuscript. The lawyer also wants the judge to require TMZ “to show cause why it should not be held in contempt of this Court….”

Stay tuned. Or not ;p

Slashdot Slashdot it!

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!
