Brain-machine interface
p2pnet.net news:- Let your brain take the strain could become a new buzz phrase if technology developed by Hitachi lives up to its promise.
The company’s ‘brain-machine interface’ analyzes slight changes in the brain’s blood flow and translates brain motion into electric signals, says Associated Press.
The system has already put a toy train into motion, says the story. “Activating that region of the brain - by doing sums or singing a song — is what makes the train run,” it says.
“Underlying Hitachi’s brain-machine interface is a technology called optical topography, which sends a small amount of infrared light through the brain’s surface to map out changes in blood flow.”
Although brain-machine interface technology has traditionally focused on medical uses, makers such as Hitachi and Honda have been racing to refine the technology for commercial application, says AP.
Hitachi scientists are working on a brain TV remote controller to enable people turn a TV on and off or switch channels by merely thinking, it says.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Can’t you just imagine the “battle of the remote” that would happen if a gadget like this ever came out?
Just my two cents.
