Vista Shadowrun, Halo 2 on XP

p2pnet.net news:- Shadowrun and Halo 2 for Vista gaming have both been cracked, say reports.

Patches, “enabling both to function on Windows XP” are “flying around the Internet’s darker regions at the time of writing,” says TotalGaming.

Or as Trusted Reviews puts it, “For those gamers who like their FPSes distinctly mediocre and have shelled out hundreds of pounds on Vista to do so I have some bad news for you: those scruffy cheap skate Windows XP users who laughed at you at the time are laughing even harder now…”

Both games were recently released as Vista exclusives, “introducing an Xbox Live-style service to PC gamers,” says TotalGaming, quoting Falling Leaf Systems ceo Brian Thomason wrote as saying:

“First [Microsoft] claim that it was impossible to implement DirectX 10 compatibility atop Windows XP, and now they also want us to believe that they couldn’t successfully launch two DirectX 9 based titles on XP either. We plan to expose both theories as patently false.”

According to Trusted Reviews, “P2P fans’ favourite Razer1911 are the team responsible for the breakthrough which it achieved simply by overwriting specific files in the game’s installation folder.”

It adds, “Little is known about how stable/functional Shadowrun on XP is at this stage but it will be interesting to see whether legal copies of the game can be adapted and still retain features such as the cross platform PC/Xbox 360 online gaming. Only one way to find out…

“So all in all a great start for Vista and DirectX 10. We have the forgettable, now-DirectX 9 friendly, Shadowrun and the antiquated port of Halo 2 (which clearly needed the best available technological platform for Windows games). Some might say Vista and DirectX 10 are in something of a crisis… other – smarter people – would say it is in need of Crysis…”

Crysis will run on xp as well, so it’s not going to be a visa exclusive title. Direct X 10 is just a software abstraction layer for interfacing with the hardware driver, just as OpenGL is. People are foolish to buy into the hype. If you buy new hardware will get a performance boost irrespective of the platform.

People ignorant of the mechanics of software and drivers are the ones who fall for this type of specious marketing. And let me tell you, there are alot (tomshardware forum comes to mind…).

If you are under the impression that a new direct x revision will somehow transform your hardware into something more than the sum of it’s parts, you are wholly mistaken.

I have always stated that Microsoft was responcible for Piracy, if they had not been so greedy they could have found a way to control the problem before it started, but that meant spending a bit more money. There are ways to stop people copying there work, but it means spending money, and this, they will not do. Sometimes i wonder who is the real pirates, look at the price Microsoft charege for a little disc, that would cost them about 2p in british money, i know that we are paying for the System, but how many billions have they got to make before they do themselves a favour, and bring the price down. It is this that is causing the problem, GREED?
