German Google Mail shut down?
p2pnet.net news:- Google is threatening to yank Google Mail in Germany if the government doesn’t, “scrap its controversial draft law that would monitor telecommunications and internet traffic,” says AFX News.
Quoted by WirtschaftsWoche magazine, Peter Fleischer, Google’s ‘global privacy counsel,’ said Germany’s justice ministry, “wants to make it an obligation not only for internet providers but also for those which offer E-mail services to provide customers data in such a way that users could be identified”.
If the web community, “no longer believes that we could handle their data carefully, then we’d be quickly thrown out of the window,” the story has Fleischer stating.
Ironically, Google was the only firm to completely fail a major investigation into privacy practices employed by key Net-based companies.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

I trust google with my data over government anyday of the week. Google has a motivation to service it’s customers needs. Government however does as it pleases, and cares little about the people. Corruption in government is pervasive in orbis terrae.
