Today is iPhone day !!!!
p2pnet.net news:- Brainwashing is alive and well in America. You want proof? Checkout the lines of people queueing to buy a phone. But not just any phone. They want, and must have, an iPhone.
It’s a cellphone, and that’s all. And at $500 to $600 and full of restrictions such as the fact buyers will not only have to open an iTunes account, they’ll have to provide personal information up to and including, incredibly, their social security numbers., it’s not cheap.
Says an Apple press statement:
IPhone activation requires a PC or Mac with a USB 2.0 port with Windows XP or Vista; Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later; iTunes version 7.3 or later; an Internet connection; an iTunes Store account or a major credit card; and a valid Social Security number (as required by AT&T). IPhone requires a two-year AT&T service plan.
But no worries. Apple’s brilliant marketing team has spun it up to the second – or is it third? – coming. And Macolytes are biting.
“For an Apple devotee, queuing for three and a half days in the baking heat to be the first to get their hands on an iPhone is nothing,” Says Times Online.
“And that is exactly what a group of dedicated Apple fans is doing. Outside the company’s flagship store on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, they have set up camp, and – flopped on deckchairs and writing blogs – are whiling away the time until the new device goes on sale …”
And that’s today.
“We’ve been told there are limits to how many an individual can buy, but we should see plenty of them on eBay and Craigslist soon after the Friday release,” says the San Francisco Chronicle.
“AT&T said you won’t be able to activate your iPhone in the store even if you wanted to, so don’t plan on walking out of the store talking and surfing on the thing.”
No need to stay tuned.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

“It’s a cellphone, and that’s all.” mini pc would be a better discription. which i feel the iphone is. (i want it to run the full operating system though) not this toned down version.
perhaps its brain washing or perhaps apple are releasing a product that people want.
the high market share(sales rate) for these mini pc’s is that people know it will be of good build quality(unlike my nokia and samsung phones).
will just work(one of apples main benefits) and will be easy to use.
if you don’t like the terms and conditions you don’t have to buy one.

Sure, you’re right about not having to buy one if you don’t like the terms. It is just sad to see so many people brainwashed into buying something as restrictive and intrusive as it is, just because it looks good, is well built and easy to use.
And be sure there will be alternatives, soon enough, like Neo1973 that you can read about at http://www.openmoko.org which will respect your privacy, allow you to load a whole Free OS (GNU/Linux) on it and add or remove programs as you wish, but I imagine it wont be the only one with capabilities similar to iPhone’s yet with much more freedom for the user.
As always, Apple remains an overhyped golden cage for its users. Pity so many people apparently like being in a golden cage.

Why is it brainwashed to buy an iPhone. Ya, there are requirements in activation, but what’s the use of a phone if you don’t activate it? People buy it because they want it, and like Apple.
Maybe the only people who are brainwashed Apple-bashing fanboys.

So why does everyone have to wait until the oddball hour of 6 p.m. to get their precious phone? Steve Jobs says democracy demands that it be so.

You can’t even call it a smartphone, and much less a minipc. Goddamn thing doesn’t even allow 3rd party apps and no 3G.

I agree about the “apple bashing FANBOYS” part….some people need to GET A LIFE!
I don’t see anything wrong with wanting to own an iphone, if you have the money.
So what if there are alternatives? There always were! When has that become news?
Some people will do anything to put apple down, but they are the losers!

Unfortunately I would have to agree with the original post. This is not apple bashing, this is telling the truth. There is absolutely nothing revolutionary about the iPhone. It is absolutely impossible to be able to look at a coming revolution.
The issue no issue about those who want the iPhone, but hearing about a small company that is on the verge of reshaping the cell phone industry is laughable. The technology that is in the iPhone is present in different forms, and has been introduced by other companies. The implementation of the interface may be new.
What is really funny is that there has been more news about the iPhone than Paris Hilton.

So what? Its all marketing, whats wrong with that? Nothing is wrong with that, its pretty smart too. The ability to make money by attaching other services, pretty well done. The thing that should be addressed is how they market it. The iPhone is “revolutionary” as claimed by many people, but what is so revolutionary? Surfing? You can on other phones, txting? Can do on any phone. Videos? Already done. Photos? Already done. So whats revolutionary? Absolutely nothing.

Some people (or many) would say that it’s revoloutionary in not what’s done, but how it’s done – such as the ease of use.
June 30th, 2007 at 11:49 am
what no 3G! how dare they replace 3G for a even faster network in fact why not allow support for the very old and slow dual band European networks internet. (if you wanted your phone to work in us you had to get tri band).
considering the cost of phone network licenses apple would only get one and the fact they chose the newest and fastest at the time is more common sense than anything else (phone network probably set by AT&T anyway)

true its more a collecting together of the best bits of personal gagits and condensing them in to one. though the thought of linux on a phone is cool.
