Fatal cell phone battery explosion
p2pnet news | mobiles:- An exploding Motorola cell phone battery killed a welder at Yingpan Iron Ore Dressing Plant in Gansu’s Jinta county in China, says Xinhua, quoted by The Register.
“Xiao Jinpeng died on 19 June after ‘a Motorola cell phone in [his] chest pocket suddenly exploded’ and emergency treatment at a local hospital failed,” says the story going on, “The victim suffered broken ribs, fragments of which pierced his heart.”
Other workmen suggested the blast was caused by the phone being exposed to high temperatures, although a Beijing spokesman for Motorola said it was “highly unlikely” that the company’s product was to blame and “questioned whether the man was using a fake Motorola cell phone or battery,” story adds.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Looks like America eats everything, including counterfeits and crap from China. Europeans are way more selective.

THe unfortunate Chinese man was killed by a fragment of his rib being forced into his heart. Non-trivial, but somewhat freakish. He was also carryng his phone in a very hot environment, which is never good for any electrical storage battery.
