Apple owns up to iPhone mistake
p2pnet news | mobiles:- You know how a fully loaded iPhone will cost you more than $1,000? That just went up by close to another hundred dollars.

Among its many restrictions, Apple’s iPhone doesn’t allow you to change the battery.
But now Steve & Co have virtually admitted they made a really dumb mistake. They say they’ll ‘repair’ battery challenged units, and they actually use the word repair.
As with everything Apple, however, there’s a significant price tag.
“Apple will repair your iPhone for a service fee of $79, plus $6.95 shipping,” it says,
Under what circumstances? “If … the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished.”
Really?
Meanwhile, if all the overblown media hype hasn’t impressed you enough to make you want to actually buy an iPhone, Apple has come up with a scheme whereby it’ll generously allow you to rent one.
For $30 a month, plus taxes.
There’s no mention as to whether or not you’ll also be forced to sign a two-year contract with AT&T or open an iTunes account like you do when you actually buy an iPhone.
Pass.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Why are Apple still doing this dumb thing. Battery’s should be able to change by the customer!
This will end work out expensive for Apple as “Weee Directive” is now law within Europe. Weee Directive make manufacturer responsible for all the costs of recycling electrical goods.

Also in UK you have various rights to have working goods for 6 years. Unlike in USA 90 days.

So let’s get this straight… Apple has made a wrong design decision, and instead of rectifying it, they’re charging people an extortionate amount to have the battery replaced, making them pay for shipping, and making no direct attempt to preserve data? That sucks.
Jobs, you’ve messed up bigtime.
