Sony drops PS3 prices
p2pnet news | games:- Despite rumours, last week, that Sony was on the verge of cutting the price for its PlayStation 3, Sony president Ryoji Chubachi went on record as saying current prices weren’t about to change.
But that was then and this is now and, “Sony Corp., the world’s biggest game – console maker, cut the price of the PlayStation 3 in the U.S. by $100, or 17 percent, after sales trailed Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360,” says Bloomberg News.
A PS3 with a 60-gig hard drive will sell for $500 starting today, “helping double U.S. sales, Jack Tretton, head of Tokyo-based Sony’s U.S. games unit, said in an interview,” says the story.
Eighty-gig models will go on sale in August for $600, it goes on.
Is it too little, and too late?
Stay tuned.

Here in England a 60 gig PS3 costs $850 (USD) and no price cuts announced. And th Wii is only $360 (USD) even cheaper than the 360. It could be years before we see PS3 drop to Wii prices but it could be to late for Sony by then with Wii already outselling PS3 & Xbox 360 today.
