Symantec’s Microsoft brag

p2pnet news | security:- Symantec, still suffering PR fallout from the millions of Symantec-generated BSOD computer crashes in China, is crowing because it found a vulnerability in Windows Firewall that backs up a warning the security firm made a year ago.

“The company found a way to escalate network privileges via a smallish hole in Vista’s networking stack – a potential problem the company predicted in July 2006 – that Microsoft patched yesterday,” continues Computer Business Review.

Bill and the Boyz released six security bulletins yesterday, three of them “critical”, two “important”, and one “moderate”.

The Symantec news, “came as part of Microsoft’s monthly Patch Tuesday, during which Microsoft also separately stepped up its competition with security vendors with the launch of a new malware information web site,” adds the story.
