Microsoft to cut Xbox pricing
p2pnet news | games:- Nintendo’s wii has them all at it: cutting prices, that it is.
With Sony initially denying, and then confirming, price cuts to its PlayStation 3, Bill and the boys plan to, “lower Xbox’s prices, ranging from $299 to $479, to increase sales and lure customers who aren’t interested in traditional combat and racing video games,” says Bloomberg News.
“We need to compete effectively for that customer and part of that is getting to the mass market price point for the console,” the story has Shane Kim, vice president of Microsoft Game Studios stating, without saying when the reduction(s) would actually happen.
But Microsoft has “vowed to make its video-game business profitable by next year,” says Bloomberg.
As the Washington Post sums it up, after a, “blockbuster launch of its Wii console and its ongoing dominance in the portable game market with its mobile DS handheld game console, the company that brought the world Mario and Zelda is now the company that others are trying to catch.
“Nintendo’s competitors, meanwhile, are playing an expensive round of brinksmanship with each other to win back some of the attention.”
Competition is, after all, what it’s all about. It guarantees a constant flow of new ideas and innovations and keeps the customers happy and coming back, a reality the entertainment cartels seem hell bent on ignoring.
