That wasn’t BS about the verification failures. They don’t always display right in Firefox, giving you the guess of whether that is a 1 or an I, a O or a 0, as examples. You get those one behind another in the verification it’s anyones guess as to which it is.

I’m a long time poster here, loving the idea that I don’t have to drop my email or nick just to post. If you’ve been around here enough you’ll remember those posts I’ve made with a
* xx attempts at verification.

Those comments were made because if you don’t speak up, how will Jon ever know there is a problem with the solution?

The verification system would have been okay if it had avoided the use of “0″s and “O”s and “o”s and “l”s and “1″ and “I”s. Saying in words whether it was case-sensitive would have helped, too. The system sucked, but it didn’t have to, it would have been fine if it had been done thoughtfully.

In all this time, I think maybe I’ve had one post not show up that I couldn’t account for what happened. Most of them by far were due to that verification system. There have been days when after 10-11 attempts I threw up my hands in disgust and didn’t make the post. That happened more than once. I was thankful that the potential post didn’t get deleted between tries as it did at first.

I might bitch from time to time but I can live with the lost post far easier than the verification.

I never had my post deleted so far but even if this was hapening it would be a small price to pay for having a readable forum and keep this parasites at bay. There is too many parasites in our societies and the entertainment “Industryyy!” is full of them In any case thank you for your great job and the service your are giving to humanity Jon! Don’t bother going through all that spam. People will re-post their comments if they notice that they don’t appear. If Akismet starts to fail, try to use it in combination with these two scripts:

Comment spam is a real nightmare. I run a phpbb forum and my biggest problem is automated sign-up’s with spam links in the profile. I tried a validation script similar to your former system but still they got through. Maybe I should think about switching software.
