Avril Lavigne thanks fans: online!
p2pnet news | RIAA news:- How would a superstar in the 1980s or even early ’90s have talked directly to fans?
They wouldn’t have. Not directly, anyway. But that’s not true in the digital 21st century, thanks to the Net.
Canadian singer Avril Lavigne has denied plagiarising a 1979 song I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend by the Rubinoos for her Girlfriend hit and now, on a MySpace site, “Hey everyone,” she posts, going on:
I wanted to take this time to thank you, my fans for all your undying support. You have been amazing and i can’t express how much i appreciate it. Thank you all so much. I am so proud of this record and grateful for the response it has been getting from all of my fans. You made it go 1!!
Lavigne is managed by Nettwerk Music and, among other famous Canadian singers and bands such as Sarah McLachlan and BareNaked Ladies, in April last year helped found the the Canadian Music Creators Coalition.
She also uses her On her Net ‘Thank You’ to fans to promote SUM41, also managed by Nettwerk, stating:
“Underclass Hero comes out in 1 week on july 24. You can hear the whole album now for free here.
On the plagiarism allegation, click here for the Rubinoos’ tune and click here for Lavigne’s.

I just listened to both of those songs, and the only thing that really seems similar is the subject matter and the “hey hey you you” part. Other than that, the songs are only very vaguely similar. Do the Rubinoos think they have some kind of patent on “hey hey you you?” What a crock.
There are only so many ways a song can be made, you know.

I don’t know what these Rubish-oos are smoking making all this fuss about “hey hey you you” is it all that they have?
And the 4 majors wonder why nobody want to buy their shit anymore.
Talk about intellectual poverty!

The Rolling Stones predate the rubinoos on the “Hey hey you you” part, anyway.

Hi!
I have an Avril Lavigne blog and came to the same conclusion your other commenters had – that the “hey hey you you” line wasn’t original. In fact, I checked around and found almost a half dozen other songs before Avril’s (and the Rubinoos) that had that line… and a Ramones song with the *exact* same title as the Rubes’ song from 3 years earlier.
I added videos and audio to show those points and keep updating the page with the latest news about this lawsuit (if you or your readers are interested). Just click on the link in this comment ‘avril lavigne blogger’ to see it.
Thanks!

Regarding the comment “both songs are crap,” I never said they weren’t.
