Danger: social networking site!

p2pnet news | freedom:- Would you want someone to judge your character by something you posted on the likes of Facebook or MySpace?

It’s happening.

“Would you want your boss to see you like this on Facebook?” – asks the CanWest News Service.

The quote is from a caption to a picture showing someone on Facebook guzzling down a pint and the story goes on to say job recruiters are using sites like it, “to conduct background checks and gain a sense of a job seeker’s character”.

Not only but also, “Criminals looking to steal identities are trawling social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, experts warn,” says The Telegraph over in the UK.

“They say that from just a handful of personal details posted online, it is possible to get enough information about someone to obtain loans and open credit card accounts.

“Some users are also, inadvertently, inviting burglars to their homes by posting their addresses and details about when they are on holiday.”

Were that, not bad enough, “Oxford University staff are logging on to Facebook and using evidence they find on student profiles to discipline students,” says the MediaGuardian, going on:

“Photos on the social networking website of undergraduates celebrating the end of their exams have been emailed to students by the proctors, Oxford’s disciplinary body, as evidence of breaches of the University’s code of conduct.

“Students now face fines of up to £100 after proctors collected evidence of students celebrating the end of exams by “trashing” their friends, covering them with champagne, confetti, flour, and even foodstuffs including raw meat and octopus.”

Stay tuned, but not on a ’social networking’ site. ;p
