mininova video site

p2pnet news | movies:- The guys at mininova over in Holland have launched a new video upload service they’re calling Snotr.

Snotr? Does that mean anything in particular? – we asked them.

“It’s just a catchy name,” Jos told p2pnet. “And Yes the .com, .net and .org domain names haven’t been registered yet ;)

The main purpose with Snotr is to, “entertain people with short videos,” says Jos, going on:

“A huge amount of short videos are published on the Internet every day, but only a few of them are really worth watching.

That’s why we didn’t start a video dump site (like YouTube or Dailymotion).”

Anyone can submit a video to Snotr, but the team will watch the videos before they’re posted and only those which are, “funny, impressive or in another way special” were actually get through.

“Snotr is definitely not the first website that uses this principle (eg, Break and Metacafe offer a similar service),” says Jos, going on:

“When we started Mininova in 2005, it was not the first BitTorrent search engine either. However, we were the first to make in into the Alexa top 100. We think that Snotr can also become a popular website, because it’s clean and very easy-to-use, as Mininova.”

And, Jos adds, in response to user requests, an ‘embed this video’ function has just been implemented.
