Huge Israel Defense Force security breach
p2pnet news | security:- A year ago, an Israel Defense Forces reserve doctor discovered top-secret documents were freely available online, says Haaretz.
Captain Amos Kahan searched the words “top secret” on the army’s Tzahal-Net and, “The results gave him access to dozens of documents classified as top secret, including information on classified weapons, plans for defending various sectors of the country and the army’s multiyear plans,” says the story.
He reported a breach but during another tour of duty, found the massive security hole still hadn’t been plugged.
“In June 2006, he sent a letter to the heads of both the communications department and the information security department to inform them of his discovery,” says Haaretz.
He was told the army knew about problem, “and that the information security department routinely punished units that posted top-secret documents on the network by closing down their Tzahal-Net sites for specified periods”.
Following the current revelation, “An IDF spokesman said the army ‘is not familiar with the complaint from last year’ but Kahan’s new complaint, submitted last week, was immediately passed on to the relevant parties,” adds the story.
